Traveling with gear
Before 2001, we were able to spread a few tips and take as many bags and cases on most any flight. No more. Careful planning and efficient use of local support is a realistic requirement in today's production enviorment.
International shipping
For international travel, a carnet or manifest stamped by appropriate customs agencies may be required. Check the websites listed here for up-to-date information.
- The International Chamber of Commerce provides information on usage of ATA carnets and a history of the carnet system.
- The United States Council for International Business has tips on how to register and apply for a carnet.
- The US Transportation Security Administration changes and updates travel requirements and restrictions, sometimes on an inconvenient basis. It's a good idea to check their website and the equivalent agency website for the country you may be working in.
Travel Update That Effects Domestic And International Travel From The US: Effective January 1, 2008, the Department of Transportation (DOT) through the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) will no longer allow loose lithium batteries in checked baggage.
