10 Tips for Shooting Your Demo Reel

10 Tips for Shooting Your Demo Reel

1. ARE YOUR VIEWERS ENGAGED?
Content is king.  Make sure the message you are conveying is efficient, to the point and presents your brand message in the best light. Text should be concise, and music sets the mood and tone, keeping viewers engaged.
2. KNOW THE TOOLS OF THE TRADE
You don’t need to spend thousands of dollars on stock videos, photos or music. When putting your brand out there in such a public and visual way, there’s no room for mediocrity. We can shoot it for you.
3. YOU KNOW YOUR BUSINESS, DO THEY?
Know the audience. Understand that when you produce a video for an executive, for example, it may have a different look, feel and sound then one created for a different type of customer. It helps to know what your audience needs or wants to hear before you begin to create your reel. Would they prefer stats and figures, fast-paced snippets that present an overview of your brand, or a little of both?
4. FIND THE BEAT.
Make sure you pick music appropriate for your audience. Will your audience respond more to pulsing, fast-paced music beats, or slow and elegant orchestrations?
5. KNOW YOUR RIGHTS
There are certain laws and regulations every videographer and editor must know before they step behind a camera.  It is import to work with a company that won’t risk your company’s reputation or get you into unnecessary trouble. Depending on your desired deliverable, you might not be able to use certain assets that may have copyrights.
6. WHY WASTE YOUR TIME?
Get to the point. Your goal should be to produce a sizzle reel that engages prospective consumers and piques their interest about your service. Tell the story of your brand or service in a concise manner.
7. LESS IS ALWAYS MORE
A sizzle reel shouldn’t exceed three minutes–and five minutes is the absolute max. If you can’t offer a compelling narrative in that length of time, go back to the drawing board. The purpose of a sizzle reel is to give viewers a taste of what you’re selling or pitching, not the whole ball of wax.
8. REDUCE. REUSE. RECYCLE.
Sizzle reels have multiple purposes–presentation tools and online viral videos to name a few. And the best part is–if produced correctly–they are versatile and can easily be modified to fill almost any need or market.
9. KNOW WHAT ASSETS YOU NEED
